Reliable internet general information

Where can I buy a good laptop £300-500 (For school/gaming/internet/general use)?
I am 16, and about to go to sixth form in my school next year. I will need a good laptop to use whilst doing the courses. I don't exactly know what I'm looking for, because I don't really know what all the different specifications mean. Well, I know the basics, but when it comes to processors and the like, I don't really know what I'm looking for.Anyway, what I want to ask is if anyone knows of a laptop that is good for schoolwork, gaming, general use, watching films, using the internet, and just generally a good all round laptop in the region of 300 500. If you don't know a particular model, a website that sells them is just as good.Sorry for being such a n00b, I just don't know what I'm looking for.Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

How do you connect to the internet (general question)?
Not HOW but HOW..hahaI have DSL.I think i'd die if I had dial up. If I had no kids and lots of time, no, i'd still go nuts.
