Reliable power status information

Why would an onboard NIC not have a green power status light active when configured for wake-on-lan (WOL)?
In this case the ethernet cable is plugged in with live connection and WOL feature is working properly.

My laptop gives an incorrect power status. What is going on? ?
Do you know when a laptop is connected to a plug outlet, it shows a 'plug' icon on the taskbar and when you use the battery, the icon turns to a 'battery'? Well, the 'plug' icon does not change, even if I use a battery, it just stays there. I scanned for viruses and spyware and there was none. Not even the BIOS finds the battery. I can use the battery, I just don't know how much power is left. The computer does not slow down or anything.I am using a Dell Inspiron 6000 used, not new , Windows XP SP3Thanks

Macbook Power Status Light?
I have a black Macbook that is a couple of years old, and my white power status light has always blinked while the laptop is closed but still on just recently I realized that it isn't blinking anymore. Is it possible that the light just went out, and how can I fix this? Thanks
