What do you think of using XML sitemaps?

Is mapping a blog and sitemaps for websites the same thing?
Are they the same thing or similar or not at all?

Is there a Word Press plug in for sitemaps to show more on Google?
Is there a plug in for a site map that will show sub categories on google when your domain shows up in a search? I see this all the time where a company comes up and 6 sub heading show up as well?

Is it best to have an index site map like this http://www.home-made.co/sitemap.xml or single sitemaps.?
I have created a wordpress ecommerce portal site for anyone wanting to create a shop to sell their home made or handmade goods. I have placed an index site map here home made.co sitemap.xml but was wondering if it was better to use individual site maps for my ecommerce shops like this home made.co designer jewellery sitemap.xml. Google seems to be slow in indexing my home made shops and a buddy suggested this might be the problem ....any takers?

How do you a edit Tumblr Sitemap?
I know that all Tumblr sitemaps are located at example.tumblr.com sitemap but I would like to know how to edit my sitemap. Is there a way?

My SITEMAPS are getting indexed. Need help implementing the NOINDEX, follow tagI noticed some of my sitemaps are getting indexed. I obviously want them followed, ie their links crawled and those pages indexed, but not the sitemap itself. I found the following tag that I'd like to add. < META NAME " ROBOTS" CONTENT " NOINDEX, FOLLOW" > However, what I need your help with is that I only know a little HTML and I'm used to putting meta tags in html pages, and not sure how or if I can place them in .txt my yahoo sitemap called urllist.txt or .xml my google sitemap sitemap pages. In other words, none of my sitemaps have < HEAD> tags, so I kindof doubt I can just paste the above TAG at the top of these 2 sitemaps. In summary, how do I add the above index but don't follow tag to my .txt and .xml sitemaps which are not html? Thanks.

Could someone explain XML sitemaps to me? I tried reading the wiki on it but I'm still a lil confused.

Google Sitemap (.xml) and Webmaster Tools-- a couple questions?
I KEEP getting Google webmaster tools' " RED X" , along with ZERO indexed URLs from the sitemap . I have all my urls listed, of course, in my sitemap. The first url is my main site as mysite.com and ALL the urls shown in my sitemap are without the and look like mysite.com a.htm or mysitem.com b.htmlQUESTIONS 1. Is it OK to have a trailing slash like I show above not on the .xml itself, but on the url line that is the main domain within the sitemap ?1. Do I need the WITHIN each line of every URL within the sitemap??? I ask this because a my site can be accessed with or without http and with or without www b my REGISTERED webmaster tools domain is mysite.com WITHOUT the and c when you submit a sitemap, Google Webmaster tools DEFAULTS to " www" AND you can't change it to drop the ...so is there a conflict?? Do I necessarily have to replace all " www" in all my sitemaps with " http www" ?? Thanks for your help. Google sitemap pending issues...?
I've read every forum and posted this question on Google and have gotten no response As has everyone else with this problem . My Google sitemap has been pending since Aug 9, it was working perfectly fine and I was on the first page for a lot of search results, but that plummeted since now most of my pages aren't indexed in my sitemap. I've created over 20 different sitemaps to see if any of them would work, my three current ones that I still have pending are...webbingyourself.com personalsitemap.xmlwebbingyourself.com sitemap.xmlwebbingyourself.com sitemap load.xmlI've tried the vast majority of sites that make sitemaps and resubmitted a ton of them in a lot of different ways and have come to realize that the issues must be in Google's software, but I wanted to exhaust every single avenue on advice that I could before I gave up, so here I am. I appreciate your assistance in the matter I forgot to mention I also tried submitting it via the ping method as well, still no luck
